Well, now I own a Playstation Portable. TOFU has been very helpful is describing what i can do with it, and I have some software that makes formatting video a breeze (I'm so glad that I have a portable that leaves subtitles I can actually READ on my subs!).

Now the question is games. I probably won't be playing games a heck of a lot. When I hd a 360 I got a lot of use out of it as a media platform more than as a game console because I'm simply not that good at video games. That being said, there are some things out for the PSP that intrigue me. The one game I have, Madden 07, is marred by an utter lack of docs -- I can't figure out how to kick and I can't see the coverage downfield when i try to pass.

Not to bump needlessly, but another question has come up in my mind: now that the disk-free PSP Go is out, how soon will Sony stop supporting UMD for their game releases?

They won't they made sure to tell everyone that the PSP-go is just an addon and not a replacement for the PSP system as we know it.

and it would be a bad idea seeing as the go isn't selling that well yet.

You know, that's what the people at GameStop keep telling me -- that for whatever reason (maybe the $250 price tag, or the lack of ability to swap out memory sticks) the Go just isn't moving very well for them.

I was tempted to ask the game guy at Sony Style (the SONY brand outlet at the Washington Square mall in the suburbs) how the Go was doing and whether he knew anything about plans to phase out UMD, but I don't think he'd know or be able to give me a straight answer. He'd probably be more interested in selling me a PS3 (which is not in my immediate plans).

According to GameStop, The Force Unleashed 2 will be released in UMD in December 2010. So the format isn't quite dead yet (although the plague scene in Holy Grail comes to mind -- "You're not fooling anyone, you know."), but may be on life support like the PSP itself (which has consistently been outsold by the Nintendo DS despite its greater flexibility).

really as far as consumers are concerned the PSP Go is a step backwards.  It seems that the sheeple have figured it out this time.  Poor Sony...pfft

I believe it is time for me to re-voice my opinion on the psp go again.  Simply put- if you already own a psp then the Go is useless trash but to someone like myself who never even thought about getting one before than it is the best portable system I can find mostly cause it is all digital. My personal gripe is that some great games have not been carried over to the digital store yet and the non-exchangable battery life is just piss poor.

I've out doiwn $10 at GameStop on the upcoming UFC Undisputed 2010, which astonished me that it was coming out for the PSP. During my brief period as an Xbox 360 owner (before the console died) UFC 2009 was my favorite fighting game from my rentals from the sheer take-out-your-frustrations-of-the-day factor. The PSP version is likely to be somewhat gimped, because there's only su much you can put on a UMD disk, but I'll still try it out. It should be out in May.

At the start of march I'm hoping to pick up one or two games off the new shelf. I'm trying to decide which of the $20 titles to invest in. I'm leaning towards FFVII: Crisis Core but I'm not sure what the gameplay would be like.

Put $15 more down on UFC 10. I also picked up the much-maligned but so far enjoyable Adventures to Go! -- hey, it was only $13 used!

It looks like a nice training game, though the grid system takes some getting used to. The only problem is that the dialogue boxes make Finn, the hero of the game, look like an arrogant brat.

Still looking for advice on other games, though my cash is very limited right now.

I chose the regular PSP over the PSP GO because it's not possible to purchase USED GAMES for the PSP GO. Also, if you're "done" with a game on the PSP GO, you're essentially stuck with it because you  don't have a physical media to SELL. I certainly always want the option of obtaining a game for the lowest price possible, and the PSP GO just doesn't give you that option - you're STUCK with whatever the Playstation Store offers.

That being said:
Mod Nation: tried it as a free demo. ICK! Well, maybe I'm just not into car racing, but the "build a track" concept just didn't work for me and since the PSP is generally a one person thing, it doesn't make sense to play a game that's really meant for multiplayer action.

Little Big Planet: I have the PS3 version and LOVED it, so that's the reason I bought a PSP. The PSP version of Little Big Planet is not as good as the PS3 version, but because it's a portable game, it's worth it to have the mini version that's PSP.

Final Fantasy: I have two FF games: Crisis Core and Tactics. Haven't gotten around to trying Tactics, but Crisis Core is a good game. As most FF games, it gets a bit repetitive with the fighting scenes, but the graphics for the cut scenes are amazing and the story is reasonably descent. I think I'll have to grab a teenager to help me get thru this one section because I'm stuck on it and the online "walkthroughs" do NOT sufficiently cover the coordination requirements that one has to have in order to survive the scenario.

Atari Classics: I grew up with an Atari 2600 - this reminds me of my childhood. Enough said. (Hubby sez the screen is too small. I suggested a visit to eye doctor and purchase of reading glasses. He's didn't like that)

Rockband: Came with the PSP.  Undecided  I somehow can't wrap my head around the concept of playing guitar by pushing buttons. I KNOW I have the PS3 version and press buttons, but at least the UI for that one is shaped somewhat like a guitar...this is a bit befuddling...

Well, that's MY PSP game collection... anyone want to help me w/ getting beyond that section in FF:Crisis Core? I have to sneak by some guards and the sneaking part is just not "me"...  Cry

I was wondering about that? Do PSN prices ever fluctuate with the age of a game? I managed to buy a game for $15 in February that now retails for $10. Boy did I feel stupid.

I think I'm a LONG while away from a PS3 -- I think I'd need an NDTV to take full advantage of it and having $300 for the console and $300 for a TV just isn't in the cards right now.
