Helloooooo! It's you friendly neighborhood Panels Manager here. I'd like to know what costume-related competitions you'd be interested in and ALSO would like to know if anyone would like to try their hand at running a Masquerade / Cosplay competition?

Since MEW is only in its third year, we haven't yet established any official costuming competition - the swimsuit competition went, well "swimmingly", but it's not the same as having skits and allowing people to dress up in whatever costumes they want. Given that MEW is not just an anime con and NOT just a Science Fiction con, it won't have the usual costuming restrictions as a traditional anime cosplay competition - non-anime allowed and not totally "family friendly" as what we see at Kumoricon / Sakuracon; nor does it have to have the timing restrictions of a typical SF con (they usually limit skits to about 30 seconds or so). Basically, email me your proposal for what you'd like to do for Masquerade and if there are several proposals, we'll work something out.

Also, who would like to participate?Huh Potential participants: what's YOUR vision of how the competition would run (include date/time suggestions)

I'd participate...

And it should be at a time when nothing major is happening. (Like a huge panel or event) Or when Cosplay Chess is going on.

I think afternoons are the best time though.

Someone did send me a cosplay proposal but it was "this is what I'd like to participate in" proposal. I'm hoping that she'll turn around and tell me she's willing to run it.  Smiley
Anyway, if YOU would like to try your hand at it. let me know. You won't be all on your own - I can help guide you (I've done this before).  Smiley

I'd enter the competition! Could we have like a group/ pair enter the competition as a set?

As soon as we have an official volunteer to actually run this competition, the rules can be posted.  Smiley

Already kinda volunteering my time in a couple places, potentially, but curious about this as well.  What all would be involved in running the cosplay/masquerade competition, and what sort of support could a volunteer helping run it expect (tech, administrative, etc.)?

Also would love to have one. I would defiantly participate ^^

I would help, but this being my first con, I'd like to not be in charge of anything...At least not this year.

Something I'd like to see is more things with the people than just walking on and off. Maybe actually going out into the audience or something. Sorta like a runway.

Day 1: Kaito (Vocaloid)
Cosplay contest: Steampunk Cheshire Cat
Day 2: Gru (Despicable Me) maybe
Villian's Ball: Envy (FMA)
Day 3: Mal (Firefly)/Hughes (FMA)
Steampunk Ball: Cheshire Cat
