Mewcon is an Anime/Scifi/Fantasy convention and many anime fans typically wish to travel to Japan at some point. Recently I did get the chance to travel to Japan and would like to comment on tips for people interested in traveling abroad in Japan. It would cover topics such as preparing before the trip, what to know about host families (should you stay with a host family), and other information important to the topic.

In addition, I have not attempted this since the first year of Mewcon, I would like to have a panel researching the evolution of vampire lore since Brahm Stroker's Dracula on to the.....Twilight "vampires" and debate what constitutes a vampire depending on what criteria is used.

And finally, this was a panel a friend and I tried at Kumoricon and it went well and we may want to try at Mewcon, having amateur comedians try out their own comedy routines in a PG13 panel. Just an idea. It went well at Kumoricon and was a lot of fun and figure it might be a lot of fun at Mewcon.

(1) Great idea. Here's a thought: Include the reverse: Things you might bear in mind if you will be hosting Japanese exchange students in the U.S. (or Canada). When I was a kid I was a tutor for Japanese exchange students, so the thought has been in my mind. If you need help brainstorming topics, feel free to PM me.
(2) Another great idea. Here's a thought: You could structure it along the lines of differentiating how vampires are portrayed in:
(A) comedies
(B) romantic fantasies
(C) horror stories
(D) RPGs/LARPs
(E) real life subcultures.
I'd be glad to help you plan this, if you are looking for assistance.
(3) If you happen to be coming to Orycon, come to Creation Station (in the Washington Room). We are having "Stand Up for Geeks!", a panel featuring local comedians/ comediennes performing geek stand-up humor.
Are you more interested in having people perform, or in giving pointers on how to perform? Perhaps both?

I'm doing pretty good. I'm preparing presentations for the vampire and travel panels. I figured visual aides would be good. School left me pretty busy but I think everything will be done by the con.

If you want this scheduled in, please submit panel registration form... we have a wee bit of room here and there, mostly late late late evening / super early morning.

Um, where can I find the form to submit a panel? This is the first time I'm scheduling it and not someone else. Is there enough time to schedule it? Is there time left?

looks like he took it down because it's so close to the start of convention...
 Undecided
HOWEVER, you can take the 4:30pm-6:00pm  time in workshop on Friday > I was originally going to do electronic pattern drafting demo, but I just changed it to your Travel to Japan. I fabricated a description. Will you need projector for it?  Smiley

Thank you so much. I will need a projector, or would prefer one, and don't worry I think I have the wires to connect the projector to my laptop. Any times I could possibly get my vampire panel. Late night works. In fact, it might be better as a late night panel. I would need a projector for that too. I'm so sorry about the lateness of getting all this done. School takes up about 90% of my time, with the other 10% sleeping, eating, and anime.
