Guest and Venue Updates:
1. New Guests:
ROBERT AXELROD
Robert Axelrod has carved a career in show business that runs the gamut. Born and raised in New York City, he did commercials and theater as a child and teen, eventually ending up in the Soho Avant-garde Theater scene in a show called “Little Trips”, then Off-Broadway in a play called “The Destroyers”. Axelrod left acting for the world of music. He spent eight years as a working rock musician playing electric bass and singing in folk, rock, and soul bands. Music brought him to Los Angeles where he decided to return to acting, a decision he never regrets.
Since then, Mr. Axelrod has appeared in over thirty feature films including four with Charles Bronson, the Sci-Fi hit remake “The Blob” with Kevin Dillon and Shawnee Smith”, “The Last Shot” with Alec Baldwin and Matthew Broderick, and many others. Television appearances include guest star roles on “Amazing Stories”, “Star Trek Voyager”, and “The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. He also starred in the Michael Jackson music video “Stranger in Moscow”.
Mr. Axelrod is also a busy voice over artist. He is the voice of Lord Zedd and Finster on the “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers”. The Lord Zedd voice is one of the most recognizable character voices around. He voiced Armadillomon and Wizardmon on “Digimon, Microchip, The Punisher’s sidekick, on “Spiderman”, Rico on “Robotech”, and has voiced countless Anime features including “Akira”, “The Big O”, “Cowboy Bebop”, “Brain Scratch”, et al. As Lord Zedd, he starred in both the first Power Rangers feature film and the wildly popular live show that toured the country. He was a regular character on Saban Entertainment’s “Wowser” series (as Ratso Catso), “Journey To The Heart of the World” (as Scarface), “Hallo Spencer” (as Elmer), and more. He just finished narrating the mockumentary “Safety First: The Rise of Women and voicing two Anime series, “Gaiking” and “Danguard Ace”.
Chris Hazelton
Chris Hazelton entered the entertainment world through the film industry working on films such as "End of Days", "The Hurricane", "Thirteen Days" and "Spy Game". In 2002, Chris produced his first comic online and in print, "Building 12". Chris quickly followed up "Building 12" in 2004 with the much more successful and well known comic "Misfile". After leaving Hollywood, Chris began pursuing drawing comics as a full time career and in 2006 to write and illustrate the comic series "A Steel Wing Shattered". He has currently self published up to volume 8 of Misfile as well.
2. Venue Update
We are scheduled to tour all but one programming room of the hotel today. Meet us at the lobby at Read Lion at the Quay if you are interested in walking thru. Please be courteous to the hotel by NOT entering the board room and by staying with the group until the end of our tour.
Electrical schematics are awaiting us at the hotel for departments that need to know the voltage outputs so as not to blow our hotel’s circuits.
Cash concessions stand will be opened in the back of the vendor hall for our hotel, they are open to simple food and drink suggestions in advance to help create a reasonable menu, please post any suggestions you have into the forums or PM them to the Admin.
Security:
Verdant introduces a fluid method for security consisting of more mobile but still outfitted security to promote safety and deter theft as well as some stationary crew.
-Security participating in panels and events as well as having stations for a few key posts that it will promote and can utilize their unique talents. -Reinforces the idea of a shorter station duties (no 16hrs at one post) -Encourages a tiered staffing where security is the base position and then staff are recruited from there into positions that fit their strengths. -a more relaxed atmosphere where con goers are more likely to approach staff and get the help and info they need and staff are less likely to experience burn out.
Security training will be for all staff and a session on security techniques and customer service will be given before the convention.
Train of cars and confusion organizes its self and heads for the Hotel.
Walk hotel space and point out proposed setup, green room coordinator Morak takes measurements of suite and starts planning. Heidi takes over panel co-ordinations and plans for a "luck of the new years skit" please see "characters needed" thread. New Publicity Director: AkioLegend meets staff.
Flow planning for security begins. Ideas for designated smoking areas marked so that WA law can be followed, possible outside events if the weather holds. Registrations set-up ideas: two desks possibly in two different sections for reg and pre so the line do not mix.
Tech discussion on website ideas and web streaming for the main room are mulled over, new admin added to the forums: Kitsune: Cyber-Infrastructure.
