Novel Input Devices PDF Print E-mail

I'm a sucker for new and strange input devices. I have four different mice on my desktop, one of which is gyroscopic, and the guts of a fifth, a split erognomic keyboard, and a custom keyboard called an Ergodex (www.ergodex.com). I was pretty interested in the diNovo Mini (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/keyboards/keyboard/devices/3848&cl=us,en) when it was announced, so when I saw them for the first time at Fry's today I picked one up. I've been using it on and off most of today, and I have to say it's pretty cool, though not without its downsides.

I'vebeen really impressed overall with Logitech' high-end stuff recently. I've been using a Logitech MX620 mouse, which I have to say I'm not real impressed with the quality of, but I have an VX Revolution for my laptop that has been superb, and their gyromouse, the MX Air, which is a big improvement on Gyration brand one I have. Their high-end stuff is getting really good in my opinion, and the diNovo Mini fits right in. It's a combination of a small thumb keyboard and a touchpad, geared mainly toward the media center PC market. It's really small, about as big as, say, a PS2 controller, and about an inch thick when closed; it has a neat spring loaded cover that protects the keys and touchpad. The keyboard is <em>very</em> small, definitely meant for the thumbs, but the mousing surface is reasonably sized.

Step It Right: A Guide to Getting Off on the Right Foot on DDR PDF Print E-mail

The long-term despair of the DDR community has been the lack of new, skilled players. A number of factors have contributed to this slump.

The first factor is beginner mode, introduced in DDRMAX2 7th Mix. This mode was introduced so that new players could pick up the game and start playing nearly any song. This mode features a dancer in the background bouncing to the beat and stepping on the panels you're supposed to step on when you're supposed to step on them. The problem is that the dancer uses a striking technique, where it simply strikes the panel and brings its foot back into the center.

Assassin's Creed (PC) (long, spoilers) PDF Print E-mail

I'm imagining that the design session for Assassin's Creed went something like this:

"OK, so you're this assassin, like maybe one of the hashishin, ok? And you're going around Damascus in the 1100s, jumping from rooftop to roooftop and assassinating people with a knife hidden in your sleeve, kinda like De Niro in Taxi Driver, but with a knife, ya know? You take assassination and espionage missions from agents, go climbing all over the city, it'll be cool!"

And everyone said:
"Wow man, that sounds really awesome! We could make it like, so you could climb up walls and do rolling dives and stuff!"
